Overview

Autoimmune hepatitis is a chronic liver disease characterized by inflammation of the liver tissue due to the body's immune system mistakenly attacking healthy liver cells. It can lead to progressive liver damage, cirrhosis, and liver failure if left untreated. Treatment typically involves immunosuppressive medications to suppress the immune system's response and reduce inflammation, along with close monitoring to manage symptoms and prevent complications.
